"Nets Above and Snares Below"
Motor Skill Development Goals
Younger Age Group (3-4 yrs):
Children learn to adjust their climbing posture and search for stable handholds while moving, strengthening hand and leg muscles.
Middle Age Group (4-5 yrs):
Kids practice crawling in various ways, such as creeping on hands and knees off the ground, enhancing balance, flexibility, and body control when playing this outdoor backyard parkour course.
Older Age Group (5-6 yrs):
Children use both hands and feet to navigate the climbing net safely, improving arm strength, core stability, leg power, and overall coordination.
Game Play Instructions
Participants use a combination of hands and feet to traverse the climbing frame leading to an arched rope net. They must grip the ropes firmly, extend their legs, climb up to the peak of the net, and descend steadily on the other side.
Teaching & Guidance Strategies
Start with a full-body warm-up focusing on hands, arms, core, and legs to reduce the risk of strains or injuries during the climb. Reinforce important safety rules before the activity begins.
Introduce team relay races or cooperative climbing challenges to build teamwork and communication skills.
Walk With Regal Stride
Motor Skill Development Goals
Younger Age Group (3-4 yrs):
Able to support body weight on one foot and hop over low stepping stones..
Middle Age Group (4-5 yrs):
Capable of maintaining better balance while hopping over low stepping stones.
Older Age Group (5-6 yrs):
Able to hop continuously and steadily across a series of low stepping stones.
Game Play Instructions
Children must navigate through the outdoor backyard parkour course by hopping one-footed from stone to stone, each varying slightly in size. If a child misses a step and falls off, it is considered a failed attempt, and they must return to the starting point to try again.
Teaching & Guidance Strategies
Before starting the activity, it's essential to engage in a proper warm-up focusing on leg muscles and balance, such as squats and one-leg standing exercises. This preparation helps prevent injuries and improves agility and coordination.
Begin with shorter distances and lower stones to build confidence, then gradually increase the challenge as skills develop.
Create imaginative scenarios, such as "crossing a river," to make the outdoor backyard parkour course more engaging and adventurous for the children.
Body Posture Challenge
Motor Skill Development Goals
Younger Age Group (3-4 yrs):
Learn to adjust body posture for smooth and stable navigation through obstacles.
Middle Age Group (4-5 yrs):
Adapt body shapes to match obstacle forms, moving through the course with improved coordination.
Older Age Group (5-6 yrs):
Demonstrate quick, coordinated, and responsive body movements to pass through obstacles efficiently.
Game Play Instructions
Children must strike poses that match the shapes outlined by the metal frames or rope designs on the structure to proceed. If any part of their body touches the obstacle, it counts as a failed attempt, and they must return to the starting point to retry. This activity is ideal for building agility and awareness in an outdoor backyard parkour course setup.
Teaching & Guidance Strategies
Start by practicing poses on flat ground or on low, secure structures to familiarize children with the shape and movement patterns. Emphasize understanding the key points of each posture.
Encourage kids to stay focused during attempts, paying close attention to body positioning and movement precision to avoid unnecessary mistakes.
Introduce easier postures first and gradually move toward more complex and challenging shapes. This progressive approach builds confidence while enhancing skills needed for advanced outdoor backyard parkour courses.
